My buddy Mike and I stopped at Mount Jefferson over the weekend for a short hike. This photo was taken from one of the rock outcroppings overlooking the towns of Jefferson and West Jefferson. The fall color is a little late this year.
With an elevation of only 4,665 ft., it’s still a huge mountain that is hard to miss no matter which direction you approach it from. On a historical note, Mount Jefferson was once part of the underground railroad.
Also, it appears NC State University has installed a weather tower on top of the mountain. ~MB
