One Good Turn Deserves Another

When I was at the Amos Hinshaw Barn back in the summer, I noticed this log turner hanging in one of the small barns. I’ve had some experience using one of these, and they can prove to be invaluable.

My grandmother heated (solely) with wood, so I spent a good bit of my life cutting, splitting, hauling and stacking wood. For several years, we usually relied on neighbors/friends to come over and saw up wood for us. When I was old enough, I bought my first chainsaw and then took on this responsibility myself. Soon after I bought a log turner from a local hardware store. This back saver payed for itself the first time I used it. ~MB

  1. Great pic and story! As a barn lover myself I always enjoy looking around and finding all of the old tools and uncovering hidden history. To look at your picture I get so excited thinking of how often it was used and the work that went into it. Sometimes the old tools are as good as the new..if not better just for the experience!

  2. thanks Heather. Yeah, if they were taken c/o and protected they definitely stood the test of time. Come to think of it, we saved a few of these old tools from our farm buildings. Hmmm, might make a interesting future post. :)
