Drought of 2007

We had a severe drought here in North Carolina that year, and I had never seen our lakes and rivers get that low. I remember a few times traveling west on Hwy. 64 where it crosses the Uwharrie River (Lake Reese), and the water was so low you could see the river bed.

Lake Lucas was pretty low as well, but I think it fared off better than other reservoirs in neighboring cities.

Down at the Pisgah Covered Bridge, the Little River was reduced to nothing more than a dry creek bed. Hard to believe this is the same river that rose so fast from a downpour that it swept the bridge off it’s foundation and nearly washed it away! ~MB
